Combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR)
Field veterinarian researches AMR link between cattle and humans. I am a field veterinarian and returned to academia to start researching antimicrobial resistant enterococci at the intersection of cattle and humans. In mixed agropastoral settings, like Pakistan, there is very close interaction between attendant families and animals. Enterococci, a normal inhabitant of both animals and humans, can be a danger when it comes to antimicrobial resistance. As data relevant to my work is scant in this region, I am trying to generate baseline data for further research. Currently I am working on E.facium and E.fecalis. Lower income countries face greater AMR problems, which can ultimately be fatal for all, as all humans are interconnected in one or the other way. Even when different regions experience different types of AMR threats, we all have to fight collaboratively. Because all of us need to be resistance fighters.
