Combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR)
Antimicrobial resistance is a global threat and if you don’t act now, it will become a disaster in our clinical practice. We are seeing more multidrug-resistant organisms, which are causing increased patient stays in the hospital, increased costs of care, and an increased number of deaths. With the institution of an antimicrobial stewardship program, we were able to improve antibiotic utilization. Infection prevention and control, including hand hygiene, disinfection, sterilization and isolation practices, will also reduce the burden of AMR. I strongly believe antimicrobial resistance does not spell doomsday for human health. With everyone’s engagement and improved use of guidelines, we will improve outcomes and benefit future generations. Because all of us need to be resistance fighters.
