Combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR)
As an Acute Physician, I am used to seeing really sick patients who require super-fast action. But I also see many patients with unexplained symptoms. Infection is often one possible explanation. But giving broad spectrum antibiotics to patients who are stable rather than using diagnostic acumen and watchful waiting contributes to the spread of AMR, which can be life-threatening for many of my patients. This is why I insist on adherence to antibiotic guidelines and why I support the efforts to combat AMR. Because all of us need to be resistance fighters.
