Resistance Fighter's Story
I’m a resistance fighter

Combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR)

We focus on health system strengthening with government leaders across the globe. In 2003, we started working with the government of Tanzania. They had shops that were dispensing inadequate medicines and incorrect medicines. Antimicrobial resistance was a danger lurking in every corner. We worked side by side with the government and with the drug shop owners to establish a system for accreditation. The accredited stores were branded with logos and the community was directed to go to the accredited shops, which prescribed good drugs correctly. Now, we have more than 13,000 drug shops and more than 23,000 drug dispensers who are accredited throughout Tanzania. We feel this effort is incredibly important to fighting antimicrobial resistance. Because all of us need to be resistance fighters.
