Combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR)
While I was working as a Veterinarian in Sudan, I have observed how farmers were misusing antimicrobial agents, which were easy to get from the pharmacy. Also, the sales of adulterated antimicrobials were another concern. Moreover, I witnessed how some members of my own immediate and extended family were misusing antibiotics. This made me personally concerned about this issue in human and animal populations. It inspired me to study public health and one health, in particular. My understanding of antimicrobial resistance from a One Health perspective has made me worry about the public health impact of this threat, as well as its impact on livestock production and the livelihoods of farmers. I am an antimicrobial resistance advocate. Because all of us need to be resistance fighters.
