Combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR)
I’m a contemporary artist who collaborates with leading scientists in the lab to create artworks that help diverse audiences engage with the issue of antibiotic resistance. I work in a field called ‘BioArt’ which means I work with living organisms in the creation of my work, specifically bacteria. I grow them on cloth to make textile-based artworks, use their DNA in sculptures, work with their genomic data in digital art installations and even use genetic modification to make conceptual artworks. My artworks are all sterilised prior to exhibition and have been featured in many international galleries, publications and even television shows. They start conversations about antibiotic resistance and create a space for people to ask questions and increase their understanding. Because all of us need to be resistance fighters.
