Resistance Fighter's Story

Combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR)

Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest threats to global health. Combating this threat requires a better knowledge of how bacteria develop the ability to defeat drugs, and what we can do to slow resistance. As Professor of Microbiology at the University of Birmingham, my research focuses on mechanisms of drug-resistance in bacteria and early drug discovery. I am also passionate about engaging with the public and decision makers on antibiotic resistance. I bring this expertise to my role as Director of Scientific Affairs for GARDP, which is building partnerships to develop new treatments for drug-resistant infections. I believe that together, academia, industry, civil society, governments and the public all have a critical role to play in tackling antibiotic resistance. Because all of us need to be resistance fighters.
