The role of veterinarians in combatting AMR in Jordan is critical. I focus my resistance fighting efforts on researching and raising awareness of the critical role veterinarians can play in combatting AMR. My recent research in Jordan found that most veterinarians agree that AMR is a challenge in the region’s veterinary sector and that better managing it should be a higher priority than it currently is. The majority of veterinarians who participated in my research also indicated that they believe the misuse and overuse of antimicrobials by unqualified, fraudulent or unauthorized practitioners is the primary cause of increased AMR among animals. Our study underscores why it’s so important to continuously educate veterinarians about AMR resistance strategies, and why we need better surveillance systems for monitoring the use of antimicrobials in veterinary medicine. Because all of us need to be resistance fighters.
