Combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR)
As a community physician, I see the impact of AMR every day. Many of the patients I see in our local clinic come to us after trying to self-medicate with left-over antibiotics from past illnesses – it’s a common, yet dangerous mistake made by patients all over the world. By the time many patients get to our clinic, the symptoms they were trying to self-medicate have worsened, even when they take the prior prescribed dosage. Often times, even when doctors at our clinic increase their antibiotic dose, their infections are resistant. I want to participate as an antibiotic resistance fighter because seeing the plight of my patients is unbearable. Because all of us need to be resistance fighters.
