Resistance Fighter's Story
I’m a resistance fighter

Combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR)

I was a successful and healthy business engineer, until the moment I required a hip implant that ended in a surgical infection. The infection in my right femur was caused by Staphylococci sp. and resistant Enterobacteria sp. For the 8 years, the infection has prevented free movement in my leg. It has become a tireless struggle, using kilos and kilos of intravenous broad spectrum antibiotics at enormous cost in my home, without solving the problem. One of my biggest concerns is the risk associated with these superbugs and how could they impact my family. We need to persevere against antimicrobial resistance and preserve our antibiotics – we don’t want to get to a day when the magic bullets of Fleming are no longer effective. Because all of us need to be resistance fighters.
