Counterfeit and substandard medications have been a very serious issue in sub-Saharan Africa. We have areas where patients and animals have been exposed to substandard antibiotics or received incorrect doses of antimicrobial agents. Both can lead to resistance. The problem is so large and sufficient data is not yet available, but in Cameroon we have begun investing in market surveillance on antibiotics. Advocates must collaborate and share knowledge so that we can combat antimicrobial resistance as one family, one people in the world. Because all of us need to be resistance fighters.
