Combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR)
After giving birth to my daughter in 2017, I contracted a life-threatening infection caused by a superbug called Clostridioides difficile. It has been two years ago since I have finished treatment for C.diff. It is the most common healthcare-associated infection yet still so many people have never heard of it. I share my story as part of my healing process to help with my PTSD (and I will continue to do this every year during November, C.diff awareness month). I work with organizations around the world, including The Peggy Lillis Foundation, to help and support others who are currently suffering from a C.diff infection or who survived like I did but who live in fear of this infection. Being part of the #WeWontRest campaign for the EFPIA and contributing a blog to the ABPI website has broadened awareness of the disease. My Instagram page @gutsymamacdifferently shares my journey & my love of probiotics to support both myself and others. I will continue to help others as it is a cause so close to my heart, I felt so alone and isolated while suffering from this infection. Everyone needs a community; I will continue to build mine and plan to make a difference to others here in the UK. Because all of us need to be resistance fighters.
