Combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR)
The fight against tuberculosis (TB) is one of the most important fights we must engage in. We can’t discuss bringing an end to antimicrobial resistance while TB is ignored. TB is the number one killer of infectious diseases in the world, causing one-third of antimicrobial resistance. I brought this fact to the attention of Heads of state in 2016 during a discussion about antimicrobial resistance at the United Nations. In September 2018, we brought Heads of state together for the first time to discuss TB. I believe that this new attention to TB will make it possible to end the disease. Because all of us need to be resistance fighters.
