I’ve traveled globally and have learned that microbial resistance anywhere is antimicrobial resistance everywhere, and the end result is patients die. My solution was to start an antimicrobial stewardship mentoring program with South African pharmacists. Together, we work side by side at each other’s hospitals to make a difference. I believe pharmacists need to be mobilized across the globe and empowered to do day-to-day antibiotic stewardship interventions. The mentoring program supported by strong South African leadership was a powerful combination that resulted in successful impact on the incidence of antimicrobial resistance. Because all of us need to be resistance fighters.
