Resistance Fighter's Story
I’m a resistance fighter

Combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR)

My own personal overuse of antibiotics introduced a superbug into our home, forever changing our lives. I was only 31 years old at the time. For seven painful months, I fought for my life against Clostridium difficile. A year after my recovery, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who, to my horror, contracted Clostridium difficile before she turned two. I watched in agony as she endured the same devastating effects of this bacteria. I feel personally committed to combating the looming threat of superbugs and our nation’s “antibiotic habit.” More education is necessary in this fight, whether it comes through Capitol Hill, social media or the local newspapers. I share my story with all who will listen, so that they might be spared. Because all of us need to be resistance fighters.
