Resistance Fighter's Story
I’m a resistance fighter

Combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR)

Working in hospitals as a medical sales representative, I contracted an antimicrobial-resistant skin infection that would result in a 5-year long journey to recovery. After discovering a large, discolored abscess that had spread from behind my ear throughout the cartilage and surrounding skin, I landed in emergency surgery, returning home with 50 stitches around my ear and the left side of my face. Due to the resistant nature of this infection, the antibiotics used were largely ineffective at preventing its recurrence. I suffered over a dozen surgeries, including reconstructive. Since then, I have endeavored to create medical devices and therapeutics that help fight against antimicrobial resistance. To combat AMR, routines must change via education and innovation. Because all of us need to be resistance fighters.
